Parent Information

To protect our students and staff, we ask that all Highland Elementary School parents, guests and visitors use the following procedures during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  • Enter the school only by the front doors.
  • Sign the visitor's log, present photo identification and obtain a pass before visiting halls or classrooms.
  • Limit escorting your child to their classroom, unless you need to communicate with a staff member. Independencce is an important skill to learn in elementary school.

Please note that the outside doors will be locked at all times during the school day and after the tardy bell rings each morning. Students and staff can exit through all doors, but entry will not be possible.

Students are to proceed home after school in their planned manner, unless advanced written permission is provided to the teacher and office staff by the parent/guardian. This includes riding the bus to a friend's house after school. Calling the school after 12:00 p.m. for an early release or dismissal changes is very difficult to accomodate. Please make every effort to call the main office (763-528-4400) by 12:00 p.m. with any change to after-school pick-up, busing, walking or Adventure Club. Students will not be taken off of a school bus if you arrive unannounced to pick up a student(s) at dismissal. Classes and teachers will NOT be interrupted after 1:30 p.m.

We realize that these security procedures may be somewhat inconvenient for parents, students and staff; however, it is necessary for us to take special precautions to protect our children.

Highland Cell Phone Policy

Off and Out of Sight

Many families wish to have contact with their students before and after school via cell phone. If a student has a cell phone at school it must not become a distraction or disruption to the learning process; therefore, students’ cell phones must be powered off and kept in their backpacks during the school day. Phones will be confiscated by a staff member if a student has the phone (on their person, is used, or in the classroom) during the school day. Parents/guardians must come to school to receive the phone if it is confiscated. North Park School for Innovation will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.

Cell Phone Policy can also be found in the Student Rights & Responsibilities Handbook (pages 33-34)
